Clean Water Wells for Three Villages in Mali
Beneficiary: Ségou Region Villages
About this campaign
In three villages in Mali's Ségou Region, women and children spend up to four hours every day walking to collect water from a seasonal river that runs dry for three months each year. The water is contaminated, causing frequent outbreaks of cholera and typhoid. Girls miss school to fetch water; women cannot work.
This campaign will fund three solar-powered boreholes with hand pumps, each serving approximately 400 people. The wells will be drilled to 60 metres, reaching a reliable aquifer that does not dry out. Each well will have a concrete apron, drainage channel, and a water committee trained in maintenance.
Our partner, Water Aid Mali, has drilled over 800 wells in the region and has a 95% long-term functionality rate. Construction takes six weeks per well.
Safe water is a human right. Help us deliver it.
